Anderson Inlet Walk

The Anderon Inlet walk begins near the Point Smythe Walk but travels in an easterly direction to Doyles Road. The walk takes in an abundance of coastal vegetation, tidal mudflats and mangroves and stretches, as the name suggests, along the Anderson Inlet. The walk is 2km in length and takes approximately 40 minutes (one-way) to complete.

How to get here:
From Melbourne: When entering Venus Bay take a right hand turn into Cantebury Road, this will then merge into Lees Road. Anderson Inlet Walk begins at the end of Lees Rd.



Bald Hills Wetland Walk
Walks in Prom Country

The Wetland Walk is 750 m in length, about 15 minutes one way. The meandering walking track from the carpark takes you through open woodlands and Paperbark thickets to a large shallow wetland. From the birdhide you will be rewarded with the sight of a variety of birdlife. The trail is suitable for wheelchairs and prams.

NB: The drive from the main road to the Bald Hills wetlands is approximately 5km. The road surface is gravel and can be reasonably rough in places. Bald Hills is a lovely reserve but can at certain times of the year be popular with snakes. Please exercise caution during snake season.

Foley Road Walk

Start at the Yanakie Landing Circuit picnic area and car park on Foley Road. Proceed to the boat launching ramp at Corner Inlet and pick up the sea shore
walk to Duck Point and beyond to the Coastal Park.

How to get here:
Foley Road is located approximately 5km past Yanakie township when travelling from the Fish Creek/Foster direction. The turn off to Foley Road will be on your left.



Foster Flora Reserve
Walks in Prom Country

Foster was once a bustling gold mining town known as Stockyard Creek. The Foster Flora Reserve, located within and around the Foster township, contains numerous walking tracks that can be undertaken individualy or linked together for an extended walk.

Many of the walks pay homage to the towns gold heritage and incorporate the sites of old Stockyard Creek Mines, long since closed. These include, Victory Mine, Ophir Mine, New Zealand Hill Claims.

Grand Ridge Rail Trail

The Grand Ridge Rail Trail winds 13 picturesque kilometres between Mirboo North and Boolarra in the Strzelecki Ranges in Gippsland.

As a rail-trail it is unique in being continuously along the site of the railway track, and having end points easily accessible within the two towns, and also having easy access along the track at the township of Darlimurla.

**Due to the 2009 bushfires, Darlimurla to Boolarra section is closed. However the Mirboo North to Boolarra section is open to the public**

Hourigans Camp Walk

Commencing from car park at Hourigans Camp Lane (off Millar Road, Yanakie).

The walk showcases a variety of coastal vegetation before opening out onto the Shallow Inlet Coastal Park. You can then head along the inlet northwards and beyond. The walk is rated easy difficulty and takes approximately 10 minutes to walk (one-way).

How to get here:
Millar Road is a loop road with one end before and the other just after Yanakie township from Fish Creek/Foster direction. Hourigans Camp Lane is located
approx half way along Millar Road.



Limeburners Walk

The limeburners walk links Walkerville North and South via the majestic remnants of the Walkerville lime kilns.

The lime kilns were used to extract quick lime until demand for the product ceased in 1954 and the kilns fell into disrepair.
A short side track leads to the historic Walkerville Cemetery.

The walk is 750 metres in length and takes approximately 20 minutes (one-way) to complete.

How to get here:
Walkerville South is located approximately 15 minutes from Tarwin Lower or Waratah Bay. The walk begins on the cliff behind the lime kilns.

Loader Walk (Mount Nicholl)
Walks in Prom Country

Loader Walk begins at Mount Nicholl (see Mount Nicholl entry) and encompasses the beautiful views visible from the lookout as well as an interesting array of flora as you traverse the land between Foster and Fish Creek known locally as the Hoddle.

45 minutes return, the trail is rugged in places but enjoyable, offering rural and Prom views. Best on a clear day as cloudy conditions can substantially affect visibility.

Lyrebird Forest Walk

Located just out of Mirboo North township, the Lyrebird Forest Walk is an easy one and a half hour bushwalk through native forests typical of the South Gippsland region. Signs on the main highway indicate the entrance to the car park and picnic area where the walking track begins and ends.

Mount Nicholl Lookout

Approximately midway between the townships of Fish Creek and Foster (off the appropriately named, Fish Creek - Foster road) is Mount Nicholl Lookout.

Featuring picturesque views of Wilsons Promontory and Corner inlet the lookout is accessed via a 200 metre gravel trail, up a reasonably steep incline.

The views are quite spectacular and on a clear day visibility can stretch for miles. The towering wind turbines on the Toora hills can be easily viewed, as too the coastal inlets.

The road to the walking track is quite steep, unmade and not suitable for caravans. The walking track is defined but can be a little slippery in places so caution (and appropriate footwear) is advised.

Mount Nicholl is approximately 8km south-west of Foster township.
